A former bodyguard of Osama bin Laden warned of an escalation in fighting between al-Qaida and Yemeni authorities and predicted the government would need outside intervention to stay in power.

Informed sources mentioned that an armed group affiliated with Hamdan tribe attacked Al-Ayyam Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hisham Basharahil's plot of land located in the area and clashed with the guard. The clashes left behind one killed and other two injured. A security source confirmed the incident and noted that Basharahi together with his land's guard surrendered to police.
