Qatari Aid Workers to Help Relief Effort in Saadah
YemenOnline- July 27, 2008- Now that the war in the North of Yemen has ended, the government has begun aid efforts to rebuild the war damages caused to the strife ridden governorate. The Yemeni government is now allowing foreign agencies to help in the reconstruction of Saadah and the effort to rehabilitate the thousands of families affected.
The Qatari Red Crescent is working in tandem with the Yemeni Red Crescent to assist the Internally Displaced Persons who had to flee their home when the violence increased in recent months. The QRC is already assisting 17,000 IDPs and plans on increasing this capacity with the help of the Yemeni government and other Yemeni organization.
While the Red Crescent is building IDP camps and providing food aid, the government and the international community have started planning how to rebuild the conflict areas. Villages were razed and thousands were displaced in Hajja, Amran, and Saadah. The IDPs will not be able to return to life as they once knew until their homes are rebuilt and peace is guaranteed.
