Kuwaiti Emir's envoy in Sana'a

Yemen Elections to be held under international observation

YemenOnline- Sep3,2008- Chairman of Information and awareness department of the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) Abdeh al-Jundi confirmed that the SCER is very eager and willing on holding the upcoming parliamentary elections with full democracy. He said the SCER is enthusiastic about the pioneering role of elections in Yemen at the level of the region.

Al-Jundi expressed his hope that the political parties and organisations would cooperate with the Commission in offering what is required from them concerning names of members of supervising, original and sub-committees on the limited dates. He has also expressed the hope the Commission's members in participation of their colleagues who were appointed because they were partners in the previous elections. He said they know beforehand that monopolization of opinion and forgery is an unacceptable process and that most of the previous SCER decisions were based on accord and forgery has become an impossible process disapproved by the political leadership.

Al-Jundi added that the Commission has taken oath before the President of the Republic that the Commission would be impartial and independent in its work and to freeze any partisan activity inside the commission because role of the commission is to be impartial.

On the relationship of the commission with donor organisations al-Jundi pointed out its good relationship , indicating that those organisations have themselves proposed more than once the restoration of the previous Commission to work in case an agreement on formation of a new commission was not reached. He said the international community is interested in holding free and honest elections as well as in transparency.
