Saudi Arabia in favor of international consensus on Yemen, ambassador says

Saudi Arabia supports ongoing efforts to reach international consensus on Yemen, the kingdom's ambassador to Yemen said Sunday.

Ambassador Mohamed Al Jaber said that Saudi Arabia's support for the Yemeni National Committee for a probe investigating human rights violations shows its commitment to international consensus on the war-torn country.

"The adoption of the Arab project as a result of tremendous efforts and diplomatic work confirms the leadership of the [Saudi] Kingdom in its support to Yemen and its support to the legitimate government of Yemen and the Yemeni citizen and the Kingdom's keenness on the security and stability of Yemen and the region and the world" Al Jaber said.

Meanwhile, Yemen's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulmalik Al-Makhlafi also welcomed the draft resolution for Yemen, saying that the situation in the country necessitates human rights assistance by the global community for the government.

U.N. Human Rights Council approved a resolution Friday, urging a group of international and regional experts to observe and release reports about ongoing human rights violations in Yemen.
