Washington Reinstates Jonathan Peccia As Chargé D’Affaires To Yemen While Ambassador Fagin Is On Personal Leave, US official source says
Riyadh –The US department of States has reinstated Jonathan Peccia as Chargé d’Affaires at its embassy to Yemen, while Ambassador Steven Fagin is currently on personal leave, according to U.S. official source to YemenOnline.
Peccia, a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in Yemeni affairs, resumed his role in late August and has since held high-level meetings with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) officials and members of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council.
His reappointment signals a dual-track approach by the U.S. State Department, balancing ambassadorial oversight with on-the-ground engagement through a trusted envoy.
Although Ambassador Fagin remains the official U.S. representative to Yemen, his absence is not due to a recall to Washington, D.C., but rather a scheduled personal vacation. Peccia’s return as chargé d’affaires allows for more agile coordination with Yemeni and regional actors, particularly on humanitarian, security, and governance issues.
The U.S. Embassy has not issued a formal statement on the dual representation, but officials have emphasized Washington’s commitment to restoring peace, stability, and institutional resilience in Yemen through sustained diplomatic engagement.
