Minh Quang Pham, also known as "Amin," has been sentenced to 44 years in prison for his ties to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
Pham, 41, pled guilty to providing and attempting to provide material support to AQAP, participating in a conspiracy to receive military-type training from AQAP, and attempting to commit a suicide bombing at Heathrow International Airport .
Pham traveled to Yemen in 2010 to join AQAP and received training from Anwar al-Aulaqi, a senior leader of AQAP.
He swore an oath of loyalty to AQAP and was involved in plotting a suicide bombing that could have resulted in significant casualties .
U.S. Attorney Danielle R. Sassoon emphasized that Pham's actions were a threat to global security and peace.
