UAE condemns atrocities committed in Sudan and calls for an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire

The United Arab Emirates called on both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to agree to an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire and to come to the negotiating table in good faith.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in a statement that there can be no military solution in Sudan, only a political solution that reflects the will of the Sudanese people.
The statement explained: "As Sudan's devastating war enters its third year, the United Arab Emirates issues an urgent call for peace. The humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Sudan is among the world's most dire: more than 30 million people are in need of urgent assistance, famine is spreading, and aid is being deliberately blocked."
The statement added: "The Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces continue to commit atrocities. The Sudanese Armed Forces' ongoing attacks—characterized by starvation tactics, indiscriminate shelling of populated areas, reprisals against civilians, including emergency response workers, and the reported use of chemical weapons—have inflicted unimaginable suffering on a civilian population already on the brink of collapse. The UAE unequivocally condemns these atrocities and calls for accountability.
The UAE also strongly condemns the recent attacks on civilians in Darfur, including the brutal assaults on Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps near El Fasher, which resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries. All parties to the conflict must stop the deliberate targeting of humanitarian workers and the indiscriminate bombing of schools, markets, and hospitals.
The statement continued: “At this moment of immense suffering, the UAE calls for immediate action on three fronts:
1. Ceasefire and Political Process
The guns must fall silent. The UAE urges both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to agree to an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire and to come to the negotiating table in good faith. There can be no military solution—only a political solution that reflects the will of the Sudanese people.
2. Unhindered Humanitarian Access
Obstruction of aid is unconscionable, and the weaponization of humanitarian aid and food supplies is reprehensible. Both parties must allow immediate, safe, and urgent access for humanitarian organizations to reach those most in need throughout Sudan. The UAE calls on the United Nations to prevent the warring parties from diverting humanitarian aid for military or political purposes. The lives of millions of civilians depend on it.
3. International Pressure
The international community must act urgently to facilitate a political process, increase humanitarian assistance, and exert coordinated pressure on all actors fueling the conflict. We call for a transition to an independent, civilian-led government—the only form of leadership that can legitimately represent the people of Sudan and lay the foundation for a lasting peace. The world cannot allow Sudan to slide further into chaos, extremism, and fragmentation.
Since the outbreak of the conflict, the UAE has provided more than $600 million in humanitarian assistance to Sudan and neighboring countries—including through UN agencies—impartially, based on need, and without discrimination. We remain committed to supporting the Sudanese people and working with international partners to alleviate the suffering and press for peace.
The time to act is now. The killing must stop. Sudan's future must be built on peace, justice, and civilian leadership independent of military control—not on the ambitions of those seeking to prolong the war at the expense of their people.
