Clashes continued in Yemen on Saturday (May 16) between Houthi rebels and fighters loyal to the country’s exiled president despite a five-day truce which started on Tuesday night.

After seven weeks of street battles and airstrikes the Houthis control much of the country which has been pushed to the brink of collapse.

Severe shortages of food, fuel and water are causing millions to suffer.

Despite the fighting , the second aid flight from the United Nation’s refugee agency (UNHCR) arrived in Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Saturday.

“What you see here is the arrival of the aid shipment, carrying some 20 tons that will be distributed to displaced people, mainly for shelter for those affected around Yemen. Blankets, sleeping mats, kitchen kits and other things.”

The aid will help the tens of thousands of Yemenis displaced since the Saudi-led coalition launched its air offensive in March.

The UNHCR plans to deliver another four aid shipments.
