Gulf–U.S. Talks Focus on Yemen’s Security , Humanitarian Crisis

Aden – Senior officials from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the United States held high-level discussions this week in Riyadh to address the escalating humanitarian and security challenges in Yemen, amid growing regional instability.
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi received Jonathan Peccia, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Yemen, at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters on August 26.
The talks focused on the deteriorating living conditions in Yemen, ongoing relief efforts, and joint strategies to support de-escalation and stability in the war-torn country.
According to a statement released by the Saudi Press Agency, both sides emphasized the importance of coordinated international action to mitigate the humanitarian crisis and revive political dialogue.
The meeting also addressed maritime security concerns in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, where Houthi-linked attacks have disrupted commercial shipping and threatened regional trade routes.
The U.S. and GCC officials reiterated their commitment to supporting the United Nations-led peace process and enhancing humanitarian access to affected populations.
The discussions come amid renewed violence in northern Yemen and mounting pressure on aid agencies operating in Houthi-controlled areas.
Diplomatic observers view the meeting as part of a broader effort to align Gulf and U.S. policy on Yemen, particularly in light of recent cross-border tensions and the fragile ceasefire agreements brokered earlier this year.
