The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, affirmed his country’s support for all solutions and initiatives to stop the escalation between the Sudanese parties.
This came during a phone call that Bin Zayed received from the Chair of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
The Emirati president and the chair of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council discussed bilateral relations, developments in the situation on the Sudanese scene, and ways to support Sudan in overcoming the crisis it is enduring.
During the phone call, the Emirati president reaffirmed his country’s support for efforts to end the crisis in Sudan in a way that contributes to enhancing its stability and security and fulfilling the aspirations of its people for development and prosperity.
Bin Zayed stressed the need for: “Peaceful dialogue to uphold Sudan’s supreme interests and preserve its security and stability.”
He also expressed the UAE’s: “Continued commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people,” according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
In mid-February 2023, the Emirati president received Al-Burhan in the capital, Abu Dhabi, where the chair of the Sovereignty Council informed his Emirati counterpart about the latest developments in the political situation, two months before the outbreak of war.
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been witnessing a fierce war between the army and the RSF led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, which resulted in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.
