UN Security Council Holds Regular Session on Yemen Crisis
The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to convene its regular session on Yemen next Thursday, as the international community continues to monitor the country’s worsening humanitarian and security crisis.
The meeting will bring together representatives from the Council’s 15 member states to discuss recent developments, including intensified armed clashes, Houthi attacks on maritime vessels, and the devastating impact of seasonal floods that have displaced hundreds of thousands.
UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, is expected to brief the Council on the status of peace negotiations and efforts to broker a nationwide ceasefire. Humanitarian agencies will also present updates on the urgent needs of over 18 million Yemenis, many of whom face food insecurity, lack of medical care, and displacement.
The session comes amid renewed calls for international support and pressure on all parties to engage in constructive dialogue. The Council is anticipated to issue a statement reaffirming its commitment to a political solution and the protection of civilians.
