One person was killed and five others were injured Sunday in US airstrikes in the northern part of Yemen’s capital Sanaa, according to a statement from the spokesperson for the Houthi-run Ministry of Health, which is not internationally recognized.

The statement, issued hours after the Houthis first reported the strikes, said four air raids targeted the Jadar area in Bani al-Harith district, north of the Yemeni capital.

It added that “most of the victims are civilians,” while noting that the casualty toll remains preliminary.

In recent days, the US has intensified its airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen at an unprecedented rate, resulting in casualties and infrastructure damage, according to the group.

Washington has yet to comment on the latest strikes.

US President Donald Trump said he had ordered a “decisive and powerful military action” against the Houthis and later threatened to “completely annihilate them.”

The Houthi group has been attacking Israeli-linked ships passing through the Red and Arabian seas, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden with missiles and drones since late 2023, disrupting global trade for what it said is a show of solidarity with the Gaza Strip.

The group halted its attacks when a ceasefire was declared in January between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas, but it resumed the attacks when Israel renewed its assault on Gaza, where more than 50,250 people have been killed.
