UN Envoy, GCC Secretary General Discuss Political Settlement Path in Yemen
Manama -- United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg met with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi to discuss the latest developments in Yemen and the prospects for a sustainable political settlement.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 21st Manama Dialogue on October 31, 2025, and focused on regional and international efforts to promote peace and stability in Yemen. Both officials exchanged views on the evolving situation in the country, emphasizing the importance of coordinated action to support the UN-led peace process.
Mr. Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s commitment to backing the United Nations’ efforts to facilitate dialogue among Yemeni parties and to reach a comprehensive political solution that ends the conflict and restores stability. He stressed the need for inclusive negotiations that reflect the aspirations of the Yemeni people and uphold the principles of sovereignty and unity.
Mr. Grundberg, for his part, highlighted the urgency of overcoming the “wartime mentality” and advancing toward a Yemeni-led political settlement. He reiterated the UN’s dedication to engaging all stakeholders and building consensus around a roadmap for peace.
