Yemeni human rights monitor revealed , Thursday, that mobile sea mines laid by the Houthis during the past days have moved towards the perimeter of the islands located to the northwest of the Yemeni coast in the Red Sea.
The Yemeni Landmine Observatory said, on its Twitter page: "Additional moving marine mines are approaching the vicinity of some islands located in the northwestern sector of the Red Sea, after the Houthis deployed them during the past days, taking advantage of the south-north winds that contributed to moving these mines."
The independent human rights monitor confirmed that "the pollution of the Red Sea with more marine mines of various sizes and tasks threatens international commercial navigation and marine life, and represents an imminent danger to the lives of fishermen and sea-goers."
The human rights monitor estimates that the marine engineering teams found during the last period 3452 marine mines on the beaches and the vicinity of a number of Yemeni islands in the Red Sea, where these mines were dismantled and disposed of, and their dangers were prevented.
The Yemeni government has repeatedly warned of the serious and unprecedented threat posed by Houthi naval mines to the safety of commercial ships and the security of navigation in international corridors in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Marine mines planted by the Houthi coup militia have also killed dozens of fishermen on the Yemeni coast.
As a result of these mines, the fishing movement stopped in many areas, which affected thousands of families who depend on the fishing profession.
