Houthi intelligence service in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, arrested the head of Teachers' Club, Abu Zaid al-Kumaim, after besieging his house and attempting to storm it by force, in preparation for his trial, against the backdrop of his leadership of the strike to demand the payment of teachers' salaries that were cut off seven years ago, a strike that has entered its third month.
According to local sources in Sanaa, Houthi intelligence forces, led by Khaled Sharaf al-Din, surrounded Al-Kumaim’s house and tried to forcefully storm it by breaking the door. However, the man, whose wife woke him up and informed him that someone wanted to storm the house, refused to leave and exchanged fire with the forces for some time. Time before intermediaries from social and tribal figures intervened.
Ismail Al-Khula’i, one of the social figures who intervened to contain the situation, stated that he and a number of tribal and social notables came to the home of the head of the Teachers’ Club after receiving a call that he, his wife, and his daughters were besieged by the Houthi security and intelligence forces, and that upon their arrival, the forces that were besieging the house informed them that Al-Kumaim was accused. In cooperation with those who called him “aggression,” he responded to them that he wanted teachers’ salaries and did not want anything else and refused to surrender himself.
According to what Al-Khula’i reported, they negotiated with the commander of the intelligence campaign and communicated with leaders in the Houthi group to avoid escalation, and it was agreed that a member of the prosecution responsible for terrorism and state security cases would be brought to arrest al-Kumaim without any harm to it, which is what happened, and notables, notables and figures also attended. A legal entity to document the safe receipt of the man and to ensure that the Houthis received him alive and well and that they bear responsibility for any harm that will befall him.
