The French Senate voted unanimously on a draft resolution condemning the destructive acts of the Houthi militias in the Red Sea, and the resolution includes a call for international action to protect international navigation from threats.

322 members voted in favor of the resolution out of 340 members who attended the session, without any objection.

This unified vote reflects the French Senate's rejection and thus the current official French orientation of the destructive acts of the Houthi militias in Yemen, which threaten the stability and security of global trade in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.

 The member of the senate Ms. Nathalie Joliet, said that the Houthi militias are exploiting the current events in Gaza, but in fact they have been practicing these terrorist acts since their coup against the legitimate authority in Yemen in 2014. This draft resolution was initiated by prominent members of the French Senate, including Ms. Nathalie Joliet, Ms. Nicole Duranton, and Messrs. François Patriat and Jean-Baptiste Lemoine.

Yemeni ambassador to France, Dr. Riadh Yassin expressed his appreciation for the French support and the Senate initiative to highlight the challenges facing Yemen as a result of the Houthi attacks, stressing that this decision represents an important step in directing the international community towards confronting these threats, and enhances efforts aimed at supporting the legitimate government in Yemen to regain control over all areas and ports. He also pointed out that supporting the Yemeni government not only contributes to achieving internal stability, but also helps in securing international trade corridors in the Red Sea.
