Yemen's president and UN Envoy Discuss Reviving Peace Process in Riyadh

Aden — Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, met with UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg in Riyadh to discuss renewed efforts to revive the stalled peace process and end the country’s decade-long conflict.
During the meeting, Grundberg briefed Al-Alimi on his recent regional consultations aimed at restoring momentum for a comprehensive political settlement under United Nations auspices. The discussions focused on confidence-building measures, humanitarian access, and the need for inclusive dialogue involving all Yemeni parties.
Al-Alimi reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to a peaceful resolution based on the agreed terms of reference, including the Gulf Initiative, outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. He emphasized the importance of international pressure on the Houthi militia to engage constructively and cease military escalations, particularly in the Red Sea.
“The Presidential Leadership Council remains fully committed to a just and sustainable peace that restores state institutions and alleviates the suffering of the Yemeni people,” Al-Alimi said, according to an official statement.
Grundberg welcomed the Council’s support and reiterated the UN’s readiness to facilitate negotiations and coordinate humanitarian efforts. The meeting comes amid growing international concern over the humanitarian crisis and regional instability linked to the conflict.
