TAIZ — The Director of Security for Al-Ta’iziyah District in Taiz Governorate was killed on Thursday following the detonation of an explosive device planted in his vehicle, according to local security sources.
The attack occurred in the early hours of the morning as the official was leaving his residence. Eyewitnesses reported a powerful blast that destroyed the vehicle and left several nearby civilians injured. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the security chief succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
“This targeted assassination reflects the deteriorating security situation in Taiz and the growing threat posed by armed groups operating in the region,” said a local official who requested anonymity.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but authorities have launched an investigation to identify those behind the bombing. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of government and security personnel in areas plagued by instability and conflict.
Al-Ta’iziyah District has witnessed sporadic violence in recent months, with tensions rising between rival factions and an increase in targeted attacks. The killing of the district’s top security official marks a significant escalation and is likely to prompt tighter security measures across the governorate.
