Riyadh Hosts Landmark Yemen Maritime Security Partnership Conference with Participation from 40 Nations
Ryadh – Saudi Arabia has hosted a high-level international conference in Riyadh aimed at strengthening maritime security in Yemen, drawing participation from over 40 countries concerned with safeguarding regional stability and global trade routes.
The Yemen Maritime Security Partnership (YMSP) conference, jointly organized by Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Yemen’s internationally recognized government, focused on bolstering the capabilities of Yemen’s Coast Guard and combating threats such as smuggling, piracy, and human trafficking in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Saudi Arabia pledged $4 million in direct support to Yemen’s maritime forces, while other nations offered technical assistance, training programs, and equipment to enhance operational readiness. A dedicated international secretariat will oversee coordination and resource allocation to ensure strategic impact.
Yemen’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Shaya Zindani, praised the initiative, calling maritime security a “national priority and shared responsibility.” He commended Saudi Arabia’s leadership and the UK’s role in establishing a technical support mechanism for Yemen’s maritime institutions.
British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, emphasized that the conference reflects “a strong and enduring partnership” between London and Riyadh, aimed at restoring stability and protecting vital shipping lanes.
Saudi Ambassador Mohammed Al-Jaber described the partnership as “strategic and essential,” highlighting its importance not only for Yemen but for the broader Red Sea region and international commerce.
The conference marks a significant step toward coordinated international action to secure Yemen’s coastal waters and support long-term peace and development in the country.
