Over 260,000 Displaced in Yemen Amid Conflict, Natural Disasters, and Famine, UNFPA Reports
Sana’a— Yemen is witnessing a fresh wave of humanitarian crisis as over 260,000 individuals have been forced to flee their homes between July and September 2025.
The displacement surge is driven by intensified armed clashes, natural disasters, and a deepening famine, which continues to grip large parts of the country.
The alarming figures were published in a recent assessment by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which highlighted the growing vulnerability of displaced populations, particularly women, children, and the elderly. The report underscores the urgent need for coordinated humanitarian action to address the escalating crisis.
Conflict remains the primary driver of displacement, with governorates such as Ma’rib, Taiz, and Al Hudaydah experiencing renewed violence. Simultaneously, flooding, droughts, and other climate-related shocks have destroyed homes and livelihoods, forcing families to seek refuge in overcrowded shelters or makeshift camps.
Food insecurity has reached critical levels. UNFPA warns that millions are facing acute hunger, with displaced families among the hardest hit. The lack of access to clean water, healthcare, and basic services has further compounded the suffering.
“Yemen’s displaced communities are enduring unimaginable hardship,” said a UNFPA spokesperson. “We are particularly concerned about the health and safety of women and girls, who face heightened risks in displacement settings.”
UNFPA is working with local partners to provide reproductive health services, psychosocial support, and emergency relief supplies, but funding gaps and access challenges remain significant obstacles.
The report calls for urgent international support to scale up humanitarian operations and prevent further deterioration of Yemen’s already fragile situation. As the country enters its eleventh year of conflict, the humanitarian toll continues to rise, with displacement becoming a tragic norm for hundreds of thousands.
