Aden — The Electricity Corporation in Aden has issued an urgent warning that the city is on the brink of a complete power outage due to a severe fuel shortage. If no emergency intervention is made within hours, all remaining power generation stations are expected to shut down, plunging the city into total darkness.

According to the corporation, fuel reserves have reached critically low levels, leaving only the President Power Plant operational at partial capacity. The plant is currently generating just 65 megawatts, supplemented by limited solar power during daylight hours. All other stations, including the vital Petro Masila and Mansoura facilities, have either ceased operations or are expected to run out of fuel within 24 to 72 hours.

The blackout threat comes amid already dire conditions, with residents enduring daily outages exceeding 17 hours. Hospitals, water stations, and other essential services are struggling to maintain operations, raising fears of a broader humanitarian crisis.

In a desperate appeal, the Electricity Corporation has called on the Presidential Leadership Council, Hadramout Governor Mabkhout bin Madi, and tribal leaders to urgently supply crude oil to keep the remaining stations running. The corporation emphasized that without immediate fuel deliveries, Aden will face a total shutdown of its electricity infrastructure.

Public frustration is mounting, with protests erupting in several districts of Aden. Citizens have voiced anger over the prolonged outages and lack of government response, warning that the situation could escalate if left unaddressed.

The looming blackout threatens to deepen the humanitarian and economic challenges in Yemen’s temporary capital, where fuel shortages have become a recurring crisis amid broader instability and logistical constraints.
