Hodeidah --  Seven Yemeni fishermen lost their lives after their boat capsized in the Red Sea due to strong winds and high waves, local authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident occurred off Yemen’s western coast, where rough seas and severe weather conditions have recently posed growing risks to small fishing vessels. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of the fishermen, while efforts continue to locate any possible survivors.

Maritime officials warned that seasonal winds and rising waves have made navigation increasingly dangerous for local fishermen, many of whom rely on small, poorly equipped boats for their livelihoods.

Fishing communities along Yemen’s Red Sea coast have long struggled with limited safety equipment and deteriorating infrastructure, challenges compounded by years of conflict and economic hardship.
