More than 30 Houthis were killed yesterday during clashes with the Yemeni army in Nham district, east of Sana’a, a military spokesman said.

Fighting on the Nham front continued yesterday with significant progress made by government forces, a statement by the military said.

“The army has managed to liberate the village of Al-Hawl, the mountains of Al-Barrak, Shaab Al-Shilaf and Sadd Bani Amer.”

According to the statement, the fighting “resulted in killing more than 30 Houthi militiamen and wounding dozens more”. The statement did not mention the losses endured by the army.

Arab coalition warplanes launched several raids in the area, it explained, destroying four army patrols and three vehicles used by the militias.

There was no immediate comment from the Houthis.

Meanwhile, seven Yemeni soldiers were killed and three were wounded in a landmine explosion in the province of Hudaydah, west of the country.

A military source, who preferred not to be named, told the Anadolu Agency that the mine exploded while the men were in their cars. The injured were transferred to Aden for treatment.

Fighting between the Yemeni army and the Houthis has intensified after the assassination of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh led to his forces joining government ranks. The Houthis, who had previously allied with Saleh’s forces, have been left isolated as a result.
