Twenty people were killed and 35 injured as a result of thunderbolts that struck several areas in Yemen, accompanied by heavy rains that caused torrential torrents and devastating floods.
Yemen is experiencing a period of atmospheric instability caused by an air depression coming from the Arabian Sea, which greatly affected its governorates, especially Amran and Hajjah in the north of the country, where the human tragedy occurred.
“Reuters” news agency quoted a local official in the agricultural province of Amran in the north of the country as saying that a thunderbolt struck a funeral for women in the Hashef area in the Al-Asha district, killing 6 women and wounding about 19 others.
And official sources in the mountainous Hajjah Governorate, northwest of Yemen, stated that 7 people were killed and 8 others were injured by thunderbolts that struck several areas in the governorate.
And local media reported that thunderbolts led to the death of 5 citizens and the injury of 5 others in the Qaql Shammar district.
Last week, the United Nations announced the death of 77 people as a result of heavy rains and floods in Yemen.
