EU Ambassadors conclude a visit to Aden

The Ambassadors met Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Mubarak; Ministers of Water and Environment Tawfiq al Sharjabi, of Human Rights Ahmed Amran, of Oil and Minerals Saeed Sulaiman Al-Shamasi, of Finance Salem Saleh Bin Brain; and with CBY Ahmed Ghaleb al-Maabaqi.
The Ambassadors reiterated EU support for the PLC and the Government of Yemen, wishing PM Bin Mubarak success in his new role. They praised work aimed at raising revenue and stabilise the economy, continue implementing reforms and improve service delivery under extremely challenging circumstances. They advocated for gender balance in government. They encouraged continued constructive engagement with peace efforts in a very complex regional context.
The Ambassadors underscored the importance of ensuring respect for fundamental rights and a conducive operating environment for humanitarian and development actors helping Yemenis.
The EU diplomats met with civil society and youth representatives in Aden, hearing about their work and the steep challenges they face. They underscored EU’s commitment to support a vibrant civil society and promote the role of youth as key agents of change for a peaceful and prosperous Yemen.
The EU Heads of Mission reiterated the European Union’s unflinching support for the work of the UN Special Envoy towards a just and inclusive political settlement in Yemen.
