US imposes sanctions on shipping empire tied to Iranian leaders
The Treasury Department said sanctions were being imposed on companies and vessels (more than 50 ships) operated by Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of Ali Shamkhani, who has been subject to US sanctions since 2020.
The US government targeted more than 50 individuals and entities.
The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said in a statement that these are its "most significant Iran-related sanctions since 2018."
