ERC Launches Food Aid Distribution for Disabled Care Centers in Ataq, Yemen

Ataq — The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has officially launched a humanitarian initiative to distribute food assistance to centers affiliated with the Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled in the city of Ataq, located in Yemen’s Shabwa governorate.
The campaign aims to support vulnerable groups, particularly individuals with disabilities, who continue to face heightened challenges due to Yemen’s prolonged conflict and economic instability. According to ERC representatives, the food parcels include essential staples such as flour, rice, cooking oil, sugar, and canned goods, tailored to meet the nutritional needs of beneficiaries.
The total quantity of food distributed during the campaign reached approximately 11 metric tons, benefiting nearly 1,400 individuals across multiple care centers in Ataq. The distribution was carried out in coordination with local authorities and the management of the association, ensuring that aid reached registered families and individuals with disabilities.
ERC officials emphasized that the initiative reflects the UAE’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian relief in Yemen, especially for marginalized and underserved communities. “We are here to stand by those who need us most,” said an ERC field coordinator. “This campaign is part of a broader effort to alleviate suffering and restore dignity to people affected by conflict and displacement.”
Local officials and representatives of the association expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the food aid would help ease the burden on families struggling to provide for disabled relatives amid rising costs and limited access to services.
The Emirates Red Crescent has been active in Shabwa and other southern governorates for several years, delivering aid in sectors including health, education, water, and emergency relief. This latest initiative adds to a series of targeted interventions aimed at improving living conditions for Yemen’s most vulnerable populations.
