The first day of the holy month of Ramadan is confirmed for March 11 in the UAE, according to the country’s Islamic Affairs Ministry.
The ministry confirmed the official date for the holy month today following the crescent moon sighting.
As the crescent was visible on Sunday, the UAE’s special sighting committee said, the holy month will start on March 11 in the Gulf country.
Several countries announced March 11 as the first day of Ramadan, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Meanwhile, other countries like Morocco are set to celebrate the kick off of the holy month on March 12 instead.
Like all Arab countries, Ramadan brings unique and special traditions in the UAE.
“The UAE hosts many interesting events to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and the spirit of togetherness, charity and family cohesion that it brings along,” the Emirati government said.
During iftar, Muslims share a generous and diversified table, adorned with delicious food, drinks, fruits, and deserts.
Milk and dates, as well as water, are very essential to break the fast before starting to choose from the diversified meals.
Another popular Emirati dessert in the UAE during the holy month is gars, a bread-like crumb with dates and cardamom.
“Other common dishes are Harees ad Threed,” according to the UAE government.
