Yemeni Minister of Information Muamer al-Iryani said state institutions are working through the available means to create suitable conditions to restore stability, normalize life in liberated areas and provide public services.

Iryani called on the international community to unite its efforts to support the legitimate government to restore stability in the country and end threats by the Iran-backed Houthi militias to the security of the region and world. 

Speaking to the BBC Editorial Board on Sunday, he stressed that Yemen cannot continue to rely on aid, noting that the solution can be attained by restoring and supporting state institutions.

The minister cited the catastrophic humanitarian crisis sparked by the Houthi coup and listed efforts by the government and Saudi-led Arab coalition to improve living conditions of all Yemeni people throughout the country.

“The government has already paid up to 55 percent of public service employees since the beginning of this year, the percentage is likely to reach 70 percent by the end of the year,” Iryani was quoted as saying by the Saba News Agency. 

The government pays the salaries of the employees of the judiciary, higher education, health and retirees in all provinces, including those under Houthi control, although the militias continue to confiscate public revenues in those provinces and refuse to pay salaries of workers.

He asserted that, despite limited resources, the government continues to work with the support of coalition countries, led by Saudi Arabia, to find pay the salaries of public servants and help alleviate their humanitarian suffering.
