Saudi Arabia Condemns Attack on US Embassy in Baghdad

Saudi Arabia condemned on Thursday the attack earlier this week by Iran-backed militias against the US embassy in Baghdad.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry slammed the attack as a violation of international norms and agreements, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
On Tuesday, Iraqi protesters stormed the normally highly-protected US embassy compound in Baghdad, breaching its outer wall.
US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Thursday Washington is certain the attack on the embassy compound was carried out by Iran-supported Iraqi Shiite militias because key leaders of them were seen in the crowd. He specifically referred to Kataib Hezbollah, a militia that is part of the Iraqi government-sanctioned Popular Mobilization Forces.
The protesters, many from Kataib Hezbollah, were angered by weekend air strikes by US forces that killed 25 of their supporters, said by Washington to be retaliation for rocket attacks on December 27 that killed a US civilian contractor.
