Cairo- Samira Al-Houry, is a Yemeni activist from Sanaa, who was kidnapped by the Houthis and placed in secret prisons for women. Al Houry told YOL that she got assistance to escape from Sanaa city which is under control of the Houthi rebels.
I am currently preparing to publish a book titled (A woman behind Houthi Prisons) to document my daily sufferings inside the secret Sanaa prisons and the violations that she suffered with my colleagues, who are still mostly languishing inside the Houthi prisons in Sana'a. Samira Al Houry said to YOL.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels hold dozens of women without bringing them to trial or charging them with a crime, often torturing the detainees and blackmailing their families, Yemeni activists said to AIJES.
The National Center for Human Rights and Democratic Development NCHRDD in Sanaa (An Yemeni organization works under cover because of the Houthi threats ) has received information from families, former female detainees, and other sources showing that over the past months, the Houthis have been rounding up women over allegations of prostitution and collaboration with the Saudi-led coalition, which is at war with the rebels.
The rebel-run Interior Ministry responded Monday by saying the allegations were rumors from the “mouthpieces of the mercenaries” that are “tarnishing the image of security apparatus.” It also denied the existence of secret prisons and illegal and arbitrary detentions and vowed to prosecute those behind the reports.
