Saudi Arabia has welcomed the ninth report of the United Nations Secretary-General on the implementation of Resolution 2231, which emphasised the use of weapons of "Iranian origin" in several attacks against the kingdom last year.

Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the UN Abdullah bin Yahya Al Muallami said Saudi Arabia has constantly warned of the security consequences of the arms agreements that have ignored Iran's regional expansion and the legitimate security concerns of countries in the region.

He indicated that it is good to see international partners now recognising the long-term concerns about Iran's hateful agenda of regional expansion.

Al Muallami clarified that, since the Coalition to Support legitimacy in Yemen started its mission according to Security Council Resolution 2216, member states of the coalition, along with other friendly countries, have intercepted Iranian arms shipments that were destined for the Houthi militia in Yemen.

The coalition found that there are similarities between arms provided by Iran to its terrorist militias in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and those supplied to the Houthi militia in Yemen, he added.

Al Muallami pointed out that since the beginning of the war in Yemen, the Houthi militia has launched 1,659 attacks on civilians in Saudi Arabia, 318 Iranian-made ballistic missiles and 371 drones against cities and villages of Saudi Arabia, and 64 explosive boats to prevent free shipping in Bab El Mandab and the Red Sea.

In the face of repeated attacks, Saudi Arabia exercised the utmost restraint, even in cases where the source of those attacks was clear, such as those that were launched on Abqaiq and Khurais and came from the north, not the south, he added.

Al Muallami stressed that Saudi Arabia is working closely with international partners to mobilise international allies in an attempt to end the threats posed by Iran to the world and called for not ignoring them and to ensure the arms embargo is not ended.
