UN describes Oman’s efforts in Yemen truce as ‘tangible’

The United Nations has described the efforts made by Oman in the truce declared in Yemen as ‘tangible’ and ‘appreciated’.
At a meeting with H E Dr Mohammed bin Awad al Hassan, permanent representative of Oman to the UN, David Grisley, UN Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, said the truce renewed hopes for a peaceful solution to the Yemeni crisis in a way that restores security and stability.
He emphasised that the UN will not give up providing support and assistance to the Yemeni people.
On his part, H E Hassan reiterated the sultanate’s support for the UN and its envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg.
In a sign of Oman’s continued role in finding a peaceful solution to the crisis, H E Sayyid Badr Busaidi, Foreign Minister, received Grundberg, on Sunday. During the meeting, views were exchanged on the efforts made to secure the continuation of the truce and the importance of entering into a political process that achieves the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
Yemen’s warring sides have accepted a two-month truce, starting with Ramadan. Grundberg announced the agreement beginning April from Amman, Jordan, after meeting separately with both sides in the country’s brutal civil war in recent days.
