UN chief, Iranian FM address Yemen, nuke accord

In a phone discussion on Saturday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian addressed Yemeni peace and the Iran nuclear deal.
According to a news release issued by Guterres' press office on Sunday, the secretary-general received a phone call from Amir Abdollahian.
"The secretary-general expressed his satisfaction at the extension of the truce in Yemen as well as his appreciation of Iran's efforts in this regard. The secretary-general also reiterated his position that diplomacy must prevail in order to return to the full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)," said the press office, utilizing the official name of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
Iran inked the JCPOA in 2015 with the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, plus Germany) and the EU.
Nevertheless, previous US President Donald Trump suddenly exited the agreement in May 2018 and re-imposed restrictions on Iran. As a result, Iran abandoned some of its nuclear pledges and resumed its previously suspended nuclear program.
