The legitimate government of Yemen condemned Qatar Charity for funding the printing of texts in schools in areas under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi militias.
The Ministry of Education said in a statement: “It is no secret that since their coup, the Houthi militias have manipulated and altered the school curricula in Yemen to serve their malicious political and sectarian agenda.”
“In this regard, the Ministry condemns Qatar Charity for funding the printing of these poisonous curricula that are aimed at destroying the Yemeni student’s ideology, creed and future,” it added.
These curricula establish the foundations for fundamental ideology, it warned.
By funding the printing of the books, Qatar Charity has become a partner with the Houthis in “poisoning the minds of the Yemeni students.”
It has become complicit in the attack against the education sector in Yemen by adopting ideas that fuel sectarianism and division among the people, charged the Ministry.
On the occasion of World Teacher’s Day earlier this month, the Human Rights Office of the Sanaa Secretariat revealed that the Houthis had committed 27,554 violations in the militia-held capital between October 2018 and October 2019.
The violations include extrajudicial killings, torture, arbitrary arrests, looting, stealing of humanitarian aid, withholding of salaries, recruitment of children from schools, imposing sectarian and militia ideology, altering curricula and spreading the culture of death and hatred.
The report, entitled “Towards the Unknown,” cited 21 cases of extrajudicial killings, five cases of death under torture, 297 cases of bodily harm and threat and ten politically-motivated death penalty sentences against school principals, teachers and students.
