Over 100 Killed in Heavy Fighting Across Yemen
Heavy fighting has raged over the last 24 hours in Yemen, with the Shi’ite Houthi movement fighting Saudi-backed government forces in several provinces, and over 100 combatants killed overall. The Houthis also reported territorial gains in the north.
Houthi officials and tribal leaders reported fighting in Maarib Province had left at least 38 killed on both sides. Pro-Saudi officials also claimed to have captured 30 Houthis in the process. Dozens on both sides were wounded in Maarib.
That was just the start of the fighting. Saudi officials reported at least 60 Houthis were killed in Bayda Province, and 20 others killed elsewhere, mostly in Maarib. They also reported having shot down a Houthi drone in Hodeidah Province.
Fighting in Maarib, and the connecting Jawf Province are the priority of the Houthis, where a major supply line along the Saudi border is being contested. The Houthis have reported substantial gains, particularly in Jawf.
