Yemeni prime minister meets party heads to discuss formation of new government

Yemen’s leaders of the Nasserite and Socialist parties met with Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed to discuss the formation of the new government, state news agency Saba News reported.
All sides discussed on Monday the country’s present challenges and the importance of proceeding with the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, signed in November last year. The implementation of a military and security agreement was also discussed.
The prime minsiter said the country’s interests should be the government’s top priority, adding that the Riyadh Agreement must be implemented quickly to end the Houthi militia’s occupation of the capital and help regain the state’s institutions.
The Saudi-backed government of Yemen also met with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) last week to discuss the political components to form the new government as part of a power-sharing deal.
Saeed and STC representatives met in Riyadh to outline reforms to unite national ranks between the anti-Houthi coalition.
