UN Appoints Sweden’s Hans Grundberg as New Envoy to Yemen

Diplomatic sources revealed, today, Wednesday, that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has chosen the Swedish diplomat, Hans Grundberg, as the UN envoy to Yemen, to succeed Britain’s Martin Griffiths, in his latest report to the Security Council Wednesday.
Grundberg is currently holding the post of EU ambassador to Yemen. The Swedish also held diplomatic positions with Egypt and the occupying entity in addition to Brussels. He led the Middle East and Gulf Working Group of the European Council during Sweden’s presidency to the European Union in 2009. He also worked as Head of the Gulf Department at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
