Yemen's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, affirmed the keenness of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to support the efforts of the UN envoy, despite the intransigence shown by the Houthi groups, and their lack of seriousness in engaging in good faith with these efforts.
This came during his meeting, today, Tuesday, with the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, during his recent visit to New York to participate in the Security Council session on Yemen that will be held today, Tuesday.
The Yemeni delegate stressed - according to what was reported by the Yemeni News Agency - the need to pressure the Houthi group to stop its terrorist attacks on economic facilities and infrastructure that impede the peace process and deepen the humanitarian and economic crises experienced by the Yemeni people.
He said that the Yemeni government continues to adhere to the option of peace and exercise restraint despite the daily Houthi violations and attacks, stressing the government's commitment to providing all basic services to its people, and will not allow its efforts to achieve security and stability and a number of reforms in various fields to be undermined.
Al-Saadi called for exerting pressure on the Houthi group to return to the armistice and fully implement its terms, foremost of which is opening the main roads from Taiz and lifting the siege on the city immediately as an important step towards achieving a comprehensive ceasefire and resuming the political track, stressing the need to stop the Houthis' looting of the oil derivatives resources they use. To finance its war against the Yemeni people instead of paying the salaries of public sector employees in the areas under its control.
For his part, the UN envoy expressed his appreciation for the Yemeni government's support for his efforts, praising the concessions made by the government with the aim of alleviating the suffering of Yemenis, reiterating his commitment to continue working to bring the Houthis back to the path of peace and abandoning the option of war, which continues to bring more crises to the people.
