A landmine explosion killed on Friday a man and injured two others in Yemen's Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, eyewitnesses said.

The man, who was harvesting mangos in the southern district of al-Durayhimi, stepped on the landmine and was killed at the scene, the eyewitnesses said, adding two teenagers working beside him were severely injured.

Landmine explosions with civilian casualties happen almost on a daily basis in the war-ravaged country.

The Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen estimated that more than 1 million landmines have been laid since the outbreak of the civil war in late 2014, when the Houthi group took control of several northern provinces and forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government out of the capital Sanaa.

Landmines, unexploded bombs, and other explosive remnants in Yemen caused 338 civilian casualties in 2021, including 129 fatalities, according to the UN-affiliated Civilian Impact Monitoring Project.
