Balqis Airlines to Resume Aden–Cairo Flights After Yearlong Suspension
ADEN — Balqis Airlines has officially announced the resumption of its direct flights between Aden and Cairo, beginning September 11, 2025, marking the end of a suspension that lasted over a year.
The move comes as a relief to thousands of Yemeni travelers, including patients, students, and expatriates, who have faced limited travel options amid ongoing regional instability.
The airline, which had halted operations due to licensing and regulatory challenges, confirmed that it has received temporary clearance from Yemen’s internationally recognized government to operate flights through the end of the year. The decision follows a directive from Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, citing urgent public demand and congestion at Cairo International Airport.
Balqis Airlines stated that its first flight will depart from Aden International Airport on September 11, with weekly services planned to accommodate growing passenger needs. The company also revealed ongoing efforts to expand its fleet and meet safety standards set by the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology.
Transport Minister Abdulsalam Humaid welcomed the move, emphasizing the importance of restoring connectivity between Yemen and Egypt, especially for humanitarian and medical travel. The announcement has sparked optimism among citizens stranded abroad and those seeking access to specialized healthcare in Cairo.
The airline’s return to service is expected to ease pressure on Yemenia Airways, which has struggled to meet demand due to limited aircraft availability and high operational costs.
