Aden — The United States Ambassador to Yemen underscored the critical importance of safeguarding the independence of the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden, highlighting its role in stabilizing the country’s fragile economy.

In remarks delivered Tuesday, the Ambassador praised the Central Bank’s commitment to implementing international sanctions against the Houthi movement, which has been designated as a terrorist organization. He noted that the bank’s adherence to these measures reflects its responsibility in upholding global financial regulations and counterterrorism efforts.

The Ambassador emphasized that maintaining the Central Bank’s autonomy is essential for ensuring transparency, strengthening monetary policy, and protecting Yemen’s financial system from political interference.

He further commended the institution’s efforts to preserve credibility with international partners and donors, despite the challenges posed by ongoing conflict and economic instability.
