Hadramout Launches Yemen’s First Solar Cement Plant at $11 Million Investment
Mukalla — Local authorities in Hadramout have announced the inauguration of Yemen’s first solar-powered cement station, a landmark project valued at $11 million that marks a significant step toward sustainable industrial development in the country.
The facility, designed to integrate solar energy into cement production, is expected to cut reliance on diesel fuel, stabilize electricity supply for heavy machinery, and lower operating costs.
According to project engineers, the solar system has been tailored to handle the high inrush currents required by crushers, mills, and kilns, ensuring uninterrupted production even under challenging grid conditions.
Officials highlighted the project as a breakthrough for Yemen’s industrial sector, which has long struggled with energy shortages and rising fuel prices. By harnessing renewable energy, the cement plant not only strengthens local manufacturing capacity but also contributes to broader climate resilience efforts in Hadramout.
The project aligns with international calls to reduce fossil fuel dependence and promote sustainable energy solutions in fragile states.
“This station represents a turning point for Yemen’s industrial future,” said one local official during the launch ceremony. “It demonstrates that even amid crisis, innovation and renewable energy can drive progress.”
The Hadramout solar cement plant is expected to create new jobs, enhance production reliability, and position Yemen as a regional pioneer in integrating renewable energy into heavy industry.
