UN Envoy Hans Grundberg Concludes Muscat Visit Focused on Reviving Yemen Peace Efforts
Muscat — United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, has concluded a diplomatic visit to the Omani capital Muscat, where he held a series of high-level meetings aimed at advancing UN-led mediation efforts to end the conflict in Yemen.
During the visit, Grundberg met with senior Omani officials and the head of the Houthi negotiating delegation, discussing pathways to resume inclusive political dialogue and reduce tensions on the ground. The talks focused on building confidence between parties and addressing urgent humanitarian and security concerns.
In a statement issued by the UN Office for the Special Envoy, Grundberg emphasized the importance of regional support in facilitating a sustainable peace process. “Oman continues to play a constructive role in supporting dialogue and de-escalation,” the envoy noted.
The meetings also addressed growing threats to maritime security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as well as the need to protect civilian infrastructure and ensure humanitarian access across conflict-affected areas.
This visit comes amid renewed international efforts to revive stalled negotiations and prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which remains one of the world’s most pressing crises.
Grundberg is expected to brief the UN Security Council on the outcomes of his regional consultations in the coming days.
