Google Launches Strategic “Blue Raman” Subsea Cable Project Linking Europe and Asia
A new media report has revealed that Google is embarking on a major subsea cable initiative, dubbed Blue Raman, in a strategic move to establish a secure alternative route for global data traffic between Europe and Asia.
The project aims to reduce reliance on traditional congested pathways, particularly those vulnerable to risks in the Red Sea.
According to the report, the project consists of two interconnected segments:
• Blue Segment: Extending undersea from Europe, the cable will connect Italy, France, and Greece to Israel, before continuing overland into Jordan.
• Raman Segment: Beginning in Jordan, the route will pass through Saudi Arabia, cross into Djibouti and Oman, and ultimately reach India.
The initiative comes as Google seeks to bypass the heavy bottlenecks of the Suez Canal, where the majority of international communications cables currently converge.
These chokepoints have been associated with high operational costs and significant risks.
By diversifying geographic routes, Google aims to strengthen resilience against security threats in the Red Sea, an area that has witnessed disruptions from Houthi attacks, previously damaging cables and delaying similar projects.
Industry analysts view the Blue Raman project as a landmark step in reshaping global connectivity, offering both enhanced security and reduced latency for data flows across continents.
