UK charity partners up to provide over £200,000 medical aid to three hospitals in Yemen

UK charity Muslim Hands has partnered up with international medical humanitarian organisation MedGlobal to provide over £200,000 of quality and life-saving healthcare services to three hospitals in Hadhramout and Ma’rib, Yemen, over an 18-day period. Twenty medical professionals from the US, Canada and Europe have travelled to the country in order to provide medical training to local doctors, with a particular focus on infant health. The project will also be providing healthcare facilities with critical medical equipment such as ultrasound machines, surgical supplies and essential medications. 1,000 patients will receive immediate medical support free of charge with a further 20,000 accessing vital medications in the long-term.
Four years of civil war and regional conflict has ravaged Yemen leaving approximately 19.7 million people in need of healthcare assistance. Nearly half of all health facilities are either not functioning or only partially running due to staff shortages, lack of supplies and the inability to meet operational costs. As well as providing medical support, Muslim Hands has established long-term projects providing food and clean water for the most vulnerable communities. Abdul Rahman Hussein, Muslim Hands Yemen Emergency Programmes Coordinator, says;
‘Seeing first-hand how the ongoing crisis has devastated an already fragile health care system is terrifying. The impact this has had on the vulnerable, including women and children is heartbreaking and it is vital that organisations work closely together to provide a lifeline to communities in Yemen who are in desperate need. It is great to see medical professionals from all over the world uniting to help make a difference.’
