Houthi militias in Yemen capitalized on the visit of the UN envoy to Aden and Marib, aiming to heighten military tensions. They admitted to launching missiles into the Red Sea and issued threats against the port of Aden, all while shelling displaced camps in Marib.
The UN envoy, Hans Grundberg, arrived in Aden before heading to Marib for the first time, where he discussed his efforts to break through the complex crisis caused by the intransigence of the Houthis with senior Yemeni officials.
In a speech before Houthi supporters in the province of Amran (north of Sanaa), the head of the Houthis’ ruling council, Mehdi al-Mashat, admitted that his group had launched missiles into the Red Sea, claiming that the operation forced a US military ship to leave its position.
Al-Mashat also confirmed that the Houthis had threatened two ships intending to dock in the port of Aden, alleging that they were transporting a shipment of natural gas.
Meanwhile, the governing body responsible for managing displaced camps in Marib strongly condemned the rocket attack carried out by the Houthi terrorist militia on the displacement camps in the province.
This occurred simultaneously with the arrival of Grundberg to Marib.
In a statement, the Yemeni government unit explained that the militias directly targeted the camps of “Al-Munin Al-Qabli, Al-Musallil, Hajbah," and the "Shuqman" clinic with four rockets.
It described this as a “horrific terrorist act that targeted innocent civilians and displaced individuals” and stated that the attack “completely contradicts international human rights laws.”
The Yemeni internationally-recognized government called for immediate measures to apprehend and bring the militias to justice.
It urged international organizations to aid and protect those affected by this attack.
Moreover, the government called for support to the victims in rebuilding their damaged homes and securing their basic needs.
