Sana’a – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has revealed a dramatic drop in internal displacement across Yemen, with figures showing a nearly 69% decrease in new displacement cases during the past week. The data, published through IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), marks one of the most significant weekly declines in recent months.

According to the report, only 43 families—equivalent to 258 individuals—were newly displaced between September 1 and September 7, compared to 139 families the previous week. The reduction is attributed to a relative lull in armed clashes and improved security conditions in several conflict-prone governorates, including Ma’rib, Al Hodeidah, and Taiz.

“This sharp decline offers a moment of relief, but it does not signal an end to Yemen’s displacement crisis,” said an IOM spokesperson. “Millions remain uprooted, and the humanitarian needs are still immense.”

Yemen continues to grapple with one of the world’s most protracted humanitarian emergencies, with over 4.5 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) recorded since the conflict escalated in 2015. While the recent figures suggest a temporary stabilization, aid agencies caution that the situation remains fragile and subject to rapid change.

Humanitarian organizations have welcomed the news but stressed the importance of sustained peace efforts and increased support for returnee communities. The IOM reiterated its commitment to monitoring displacement trends and delivering life-saving assistance to affected populations.
