Sana'a – A joint report by the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms and the Aid Association for Human Rights and Migration has revealed a staggering 21,342 violations committed by Iran-backed Houthi militias against children in Yemen between January 1, 2015, and July 1, 2025.

The violations include:

- 9,914 children killed and 6,417 injured

- 598 cases of arrest and kidnapping, often used to extort families

- 51 documented cases of rape

- Over 30,000 children recruited, some as young as 12, into armed conflict

The report, titled “Children of Yemen Between Killing and Recruitment”, was presented during the 60th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. 

It highlights a grim pattern of abuse ranging from sniper attacks and landmine injuries to forced displacement and denial of education and healthcare.

Human rights advocates warn that these crimes amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, with long-term consequences for Yemen’s future. The report calls for urgent international intervention to protect children and hold perpetrators accountable.

Deputy Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Nabil Abdul Hafeez, described the violations as “horrific and hideous,” emphasizing the need for impartial investigations and stronger global pressure on the Houthi leadership.
