Masam Project Clears Over Half a Million Landmines , 73 Million Square Meters in Yemen
Aden -- The Saudi-funded Masam Humanitarian Demining Project has announced a major milestone in its operations across Yemen, revealing that it has successfully cleared more than 522,000 explosive devices and made over 73 million square meters of land safe since its launch in June 2018.
In a statement issued on November 14, 2025, Masam confirmed that its field teams have dismantled and destroyed a total of 522,778 explosive items, including anti-personnel mines, anti-tank mines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
These efforts have focused on high-risk areas such as Marib, Taiz, Shabwa, Al-Jawf, and Al-Hodeidah, where landmines planted during years of conflict continue to threaten civilian lives and obstruct humanitarian access.
The project also reported that it has cleared 73,000,000 square meters of land, restoring vital farmland, grazing areas, residential zones, and access routes. This achievement marks a significant contribution to Yemen’s recovery efforts, enabling safer movement for displaced families and humanitarian workers.
During the first two weeks of November 2025 alone, Masam teams removed 2,890 explosive devices, including 2,710 UXO, 157 anti-tank mines, 10 anti-personnel mines, and 13 IEDs, and cleared 855,201 square meters of land.
Masam, operated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), continues to play a critical role in mitigating the deadly legacy of landmines in Yemen. The project’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians and supporting long-term stability through sustained demining operations.
